Play in a Group - FAQs
Why play in a group?
Playing in a music group or ensemble brings many benefits. It’s a social experience as well as a musical one. Benefits include:-
-
increased concentration
-
help with listening skills
-
enhanced coordination.
Joining a group also helps with social skills such as learning to work with others in a team, increased responsibility and discipline, a sense of achievement through performing and much,
much more.

As with any activity, the more you put in to it the more you get out, so if you attend a group regularly and take part in performances and concerts, you will gain the full benefits from playing an instrument.
How do I find out about groups and ensembles?
There are many ways that you can get involved in playing in a group. Most schools have groups at lunchtimes and after school, and if they don’t why not ask about starting one? Rotherham Music has a Saturday Music School based at Oakwood High School where there are a number of different activities to suit your age and ability. Click here for more details.
